The main idea I have taken from this content literacy course is that no matter what discipline I am teaching, I have a responsibility to develop students' command over academic and content specific language. Doing so increases students' access to power, as language largely determines opportunity.
Not only is it important to develop academic language and traditional literacy, but also to develop 21st century literacies with computers, internet, information, and academic social interaction.
